Influencing the Decisions that Shape Your Community

Welcome

Welcome to the 10th edition of Carlow PPN members E-Bulletin.

'Make Way Day' took place on September 25th to discuss issues of accessibility around the county for people with disabilities. Thank you to all who attended, it was greatly appreciated.

Re-opening continues to pose a particular challenge for the not-for-profit sector. Carlow PPN would like to offer you access to a manual that will provide a generic template by which not-for-profit organisations can structure their return to operations and assemble the documentation required by Covid-19 official guidance. It enables users to work through step by step from beginning to end by completing the questions and tables provided.

Weavers Cottages

Weavers Cottages are overseen by a Heritage Committee made up of local people that have a keen interest in local heritage. The committee of 6 people meet monthly to discuss and arrange activities and events that will take place in the cottages. A group of spinners and weavers meet in the cottages regularly. In the past a group of local entertainers gathered to participate in music, song and storytelling sessions at the cottages. The benefits are a boost to the local economy by attracting more visitors to the area and reviving an environmentally friendly traditional method of dying wool and gardening. They hope to pass on the older traditions and methods of wool dying, spinning, weaving, butter making, bread making and gardening to younger generations and show how those skills and knowledge can be applied and used in today’s day to day living.
The Heritage Committee sees the Weavers' Cottages as being an integral part of the overall development of Clonegal Village, becoming a leading visitors attraction in County Carlow. Clonegal Heritage Committee in conjunction with Clonegal Tidy Village Association; Carlow Rural Tourism; Carlow County Council; The Heritage Council of Ireland; the Department of Social Protection and Fáilte Ireland are in the process of developing guided walking tours of the area and the Weavers' Cottages will be the base from where the community employment participants will work from to deliver this service.
Weavers Cottages are closed presently
